The Madison Collection receives coveted sustainability mark

Positive Luxury has awarded spa textile manufacturer The Madison Collection the coveted Butterfly Mark – an interactive trust mark that identifies luxury brands that are committed to social and environmental sustainability.

Earning the Butterfly Mark requires passing a stringent annual assessment that examines sustainability from a holistic point of view, including governance, social and environmental frameworks, philanthropy and innovation. The Madison Collection has been awarded the Butterfly Mark for reducing waste, using environmentally friendly packaging, monitoring toxic chemicals, sourcing raw materials responsibly, supporting philanthropic causes, and more

From the time the company was started 20 years ago, founder and CEO Charmaine Lang has made it her mission to focus on contributing positively to the environment, implementing innovative, sustainable manufacturing practices to create her luxury robes, towels and bath accessories.

For instance: the waste from spinning the Oeko-Tex-certified cotton used in the robes and towels is collected and compressed into briquettes, which are then used to naturally power the company’s factory.

Additionally, The Madison Collection’s water-purification system uses live bacteria rather than chemicals to break down any dye pigment, returning water to the river cleaner than it was captured.

The Madison Collection’s natural hydro-powered factory is only one of five in the world where spinning, weaving, dyeing, cutting and sewing is all done in the same place – ensuring a small carbon footprint, as well as consistency and high quality standards.

"Our mission is to protect and improve the environment, promote workplace wellness, and support clean water rights – all while creating the finest cotton linens,” explains Lang. “It’s an honour to have our sustainability efforts verified by an independent third-party such as Positive Luxury, which has a very rigorous vetting process."

The Madison Collection’s philanthropic initiatives were also recognised; the company has partnered with Wine To Water, where for every robe purchased, they will provide a ceramic water filter to a family in Haiti, which will provide that family clean water for more than five years.

"We are thrilled to welcome The Madison Collection into Positive Luxury’s prestigious community of brands to trust. The brand has a proactive approach to responsible business, incorporating water conservation, equal employment and the support of philanthropic causes, making The Madison Collection a great example of positive living."
